JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior DB2 Administrator is responsible for the IBM i database environment which includes designing, implementing, and supporting these core infrastructure services. In addition, this individual will also be responsible for assisting the product teams with new system design, implementation and testing of mission-critical business systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • You will consult with application development teams and advise them of the usage of data manipulation techniques.

  • Implement changes into development, QA and production environments and monitor database and system performance.

  • Implement complex or non-routine data models and database designs and data access and table maintenance.

  • Resolve complex database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication and other distributed data issues.

  • Confer with and advise Development groups on administrative policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.

  • Consults with application development teams and advises them of the correct usage of appropriate data manipulation techniques.

  • Responsible for space management, backup, monitoring and maintaining ongoing performance of databases and develops updates or modifications according to business needs. Monitor and review the work of other database administrators to ensure correct practices and procedures.

  • Mentor team to improve their understanding and skill and ensure they are familiar with resource materials including manuals and systems.

  • Designs technical solutions and prepares implementation methods to be performed by other DBA team members.

  • Design, implement and maintain database security strategies that provide the appropriate level of security for users and applications.

  • Configure new and existing technology solutions according to best practices.

  • Assess complex projects with a variety of requirements quickly, correctly prioritize tasks, provide accurate time estimates, and complete tasks in a timely manner while communicating changes and updates.

  • Utilize advanced technical knowledge to analyze, log, track and resolve complex software/hardware issues.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and issue resolution.

  • Adhere to and promote existing ITIL processes and standard procedures.

  • Develop standards and processes for Level 1 and 2 staff.

  • Provide remote support for our global operations.

  • This position will require participation in a rotating on-call schedule for 24x7 global support.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required.

  • 5 - 7 years of corporate IT experience as an IBM i / iSeries Administrator in a global environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain databases

  • Able to utilize IBM i Collection Services to monitor, diagnose and trouble shoot issues

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize Visual Explain to advise and diagnose optimizer recommendations

  • Knowledge of IBM iDoctor and Job Watcher performance tools

  • Detailed knowledge of underlying DB2 database management system products and tools

  • Knowledge of database physical and logical design principals

  • Able to manage and deploy application database modifications

  • Experience writing SQL and programming

  • Database and SQL performance tuning

  • Knowledge of Disk storage mechanisms preferred

  • Knowledge of programming languages helpful

  • Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with other groups to resolve complex issues with innovative solutions

  • Proven ability to prioritize work load and meet project deadlines

  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make independent decisions

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies is required.
